UPDATE: New Gingerbread OTA update is available, isn’t easy to install.

Several weeks ago, Verizon began rolling out an OTA Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update for the HTC Droid Incredible. While many received the update, I never did…and now I finally have some insight into what happened.
After calling Verizon and being told that I would get the update “when the system notifies you that it is available” (thanks!), I eventually contacted Verizon via Twitter (@VZWSupport), who provided the following information:
After speaking with several people who received the initial update, it seems the software was really buggy and causing lots of issues. So while I appreciate that Verizon is seemingly fixing whatever issues the last update caused, their lack of communication and explanation remains incredibly frustrating. Hopefully the “enhanced” update will be pushed out much sooner than later. In the meantime, those of us who never received the last update might have actually dodged a bullet.

I’m in the same boat. No update on my Inc and can’t find anything on the web about when the update is being rolled out. I was hopping 2.3 will resolve the Exchange 2003 sync issues i’m having but I guess will have to wait for an undefined period of time. Thanks for posting the info.

I just for my gingerbread tonight. Wonder what’s in store?
I have been getting notices on my Incredible that an update is available. I tap Install Now, at which point I am told the system will reboot in 10…9…9… and then it just hangs there. No update installation happens. I called HTC and they told me to put the phone in Airplane Mode before installing the update. I tried that and no change. Any thoughts on this?
Have you seen my more recent update about installing the (frustrating) Gingerbread update? Check it out.
Don’t install this update. Won’t let you recieve texts and freezes your phone, along with not being able to recieve basically any mms or sms and voicemail. And now I have to wait until HTC discovers the fix for this… So now goin on my second week without texting, email, or voicemail.
Thanks verizon/HTC.
