Anyone who owns an iPhone / iPod touch and loves golf needs to get over to the App Store ASAP and download The Masters 2009 Live (iTunes link) app.
For the first time ever (starting today and running through the end of the tourney on Sunday), fans (in the US) can watch 5 of the toughest holes (11, 12, 13, 15, & 16) at The Masters live on their iDevices. The app also includes live scoring updates, pairing and tee times, player info, as well as “on demand” video highlights at the end of each day. The video is advertised to work over EDGE, 3G, or WiFi (there is an option in the apps settings to select your connection type).
From my brief testing, the streaming video (viewable in both landscape and portrait modes) looks surprisingly good – definitely watchable while away from your TV. Also, once you’ve started the video stream, you can continue to listen to the coverage while checking the leader board, course map, etc. Not too technologically shabby for such an old school event.
