While I’ve never had any issues with my 750GB hard drive, I went ahead and installed the fw update anyways. For one reason or another I was unsuccessful in loading the update via USB drive, but was successful via CD. Otherwise, so far, so good.
Installation instructions are available on Dell’s support site. Just be sure to select the correct hard drive model before downloading and installing the firmware. You can find (in Vista) your particular hard drive model’s # by right-clicking on Computer > Properties > Device Manager > Disk Drives.
