In light of the fact that the Wii supply chain has finally caught up with demand some 2.5 years after it was first launched, Nintendo has decided that now is as good a time as any to take the wraps off its next-gen console – Wii HD!
Not only will this be the first high definition Wii, but it also happens to be the first official Star Wars-certified Nintendo console anywhere this side of the galaxy. In a surprising move, Nintendo has teamed up with Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic to take this new Wii to the next level in gaming and video playback, complete with full 1080p HD output, THX certified 7.1 channel surround sound, Blu-ray burner, wireless HDMI, and WiFi (b/g/n) connectivity.
The WiiHD, available in Darth Vader Black and C-3PO Gold, will up-res existing Wii games, WiiWare/Virtual Console games, and even homebrew in addition to playing Blu-ray, regular DVDs, streaming Netflix movies, and an enormous variety of codecs.
Realizing that no one expected a new Wii so soon, Nintendo has decided to capitalize on the unsuspecting public by launching the new Wii HD at an economy-boosting price – $199.99. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
