After the incredible success (both cinematographically and commercially) of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, many fans became concerned that Peter Jackson’s legal scuffles with New Line Cinema would all but have precluded him from working on the highly anticipated screen adaption of Tolkien’s other children’s masterpiece, The Hobbit.
As of yesterday, Jackson (and his team) have officially agreed to collaborate on both The Hobbit and a yet-to-be-named sequel with director Guillermo del Toro (and New Line Cinema). This is wonderful news for Hollywood, but more importantly, for J.R.R. Tolkien fans.
The Hobbit and its sequel are scheduled for release in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
