Lycos Cinema combines on-demand video with real-time chat. After logging in, users choose from a random mix of TV and movies – both free and paid content – and IM about the show/film. Hardly anything ground-breaking, right?

Lycos is pitching this service as “your online social scene – a virtual couch.” The real-time conversation takes place in what feels like a ’90s chatroom and, in many ways, the site is just another video portal.
But viewed in another light, might this obvious equation be a sign of things to come? Web 1.0 (chatrooms) + Web 2.0 (social networks/video on-demand) = Web 3.0?
Eh…maybe just Web 2.5…on a good day.
